Coal Train Derails Between Howardsville And Scottsville

A freight train derailed Thursday afternoon between Scottsville and Howardsville and it spilled more than 1000 tons of coal. Nearly 30 cars left the track in southern Albemarle near the James River. There were no injuries, but the derailment and the coal spill caused a big mess. It happened shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday. The train began its run in West Virginia and was headed to the CSX Piers in Newport News.
