Federal Officials Say Rocky Mount Patrolman Has Been Indicted

Federal officials say a member of the Rocky Mount Police Department has been indicted on gun charges. U.S. Attorney Tim Heaphy (pictured) says Patrolman James Marion Slate is charged with making straw purchases of firearms. Slate is 25 and has worked for Rocky Mount since May of last year. Heaphy says 57-year-old David Carson Haskins of Henry County has been charged with 18 counts of making false statements to a licensed firearms dealer. Slate and Haskins have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Roanoke.
