Man Dead, Woman Critically Injured In Shooting Near Fork Union

A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition in what might be an attempted murder-suicide near Fork Union. The Fluvanna Sheriff’s Office says deputies found the body of 41-year-old Jerry Palmer in the front yard of a house on Gravel Hill Road near Fork Union. Investigators discovered a gun near Palmer’s body, and believe he died from a single gunshot to the head. They also found 28-year-old Crystal Trent with head and chest wounds on the front porch of her house. Trent was flown to UVA Hospital where she’s in critical condition. Investigators say the mother of four was slumped over in a chair, but her youngest child was not harmed. Trent’s three oldest children had gone to school before the shooting incident began. The Fluvanna 9-1-1 center got a call at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday about the incident.
