The negative campaigning continued right into a debate wednesday night between the two major party candidates for governor. Democrat Terry McAuliffe (pictured right) and Republican Ken Cuccinelli (pictured left) had a debate sponsored by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and WRC-TV in Washington. Cuccinelli says McAuliffe is more of a political operative than somebody ready to be governor, while McAuliffe called Cuccinelli an ideologue who is tainted by scandal. Cuccinelli says McAuliffe doesn’t have the experience, and being governor is not an entry-level position. McAuliffe says Cuccinelli concentrates too much on social issues instead of economic matters that Virginians are concerned about. The two also had differing views on topics such as gun control, the state budget, health care and same-sex marriage.
