The City Council has approved what it calls a “stretch objective” for City Manager Maurice Jones. Jones will get a $17,000 bonus if he can solve many of the problems at the city’s housing authority. Westhaven tenant Joy Johnson, who’s a vocal critic of Housing Authority Director Connie Dunn, has reacted to Jones’ extra duties. She believes he should get a bonus for improving operations of the entire city government, not just the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Jones stands to get the bonus, in addition to his more than $173,000 annual salary. A recent City Treasurer candidate has told Jones he hopes he succeeds, and the council lets him have the bonus. John Pfaltz says he wonders how the city allowed the CRHA to get in hot water with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
