Councilors Hear From Critics Of Their 2014 Wish List

City councilors are taking heat for their new wish list for the General Assembly. The city will ask state lawmakers for the authority to create a local gun-control ordinance. Albemarle resident Joe Dragoe brought a baseball bat to the Monday night council meeting, and noted the large numbers of people who get killed with bats.
John Heyden of Westwood Road says the council should end its focus on items such as drones and marijuana, and give city residents more information about violent criminals. Councilor Dave Norris says the city is already doing that, and Heyden is off base. Norris does have doubts about one item in the city’s latest wish list. Most of the councilors favor limiting the time when drivers can idle their cars and trucks. Norris (pictured) questions whether an ordinance that deals with idling vehicles can be enforced.
