The State Crime Commission is supporting a tougher stance against cigarette smugglers. Its staff will study the possibility of licensing cigarette dealers, and having a lead agency that goes after bootleggers. The commission has also agreed it will not endorse proposals to make sex between a teacher and an 18-year-old student a crime. Mary Devoy has told the panel it’s a bad idea. The crime commission’s recommendations will go to members of the House of Delegates (pictured) and State Senators. The General Assembly will convene January 8th.
