The well-known politician who’s touring Virginia with fellow Democrat Terry McAuliffe also visited our area in the 20th century. Bill Clinton spent the final Saturday night of the pre-presidential part of his career in Charlottesville. The first baby boomer who won the keys to the White House had just resigned as Governor of Arkansas when he stayed at the Omni Hotel on January 16th and 17th, 1993. He spoke at Monticello (pictured) on a Sunday morning three days before his D.C. inaugural and then had a motorcade up Route 29 to Culpeper. During his days as the Chief Executive of Arkansas, Clinton visited UVA for a September 1989 summit on education led by his predecessor, President George H. W. Bush. Bill and Hillary Clinton stayed at the Boar’s Head while he and most of the nation’s other Governors were here for the Bush education summit.
