The City School Board will drop its involvement with the disability insurance program for state employees. The board agreed Thursday night to let its staff find an arrangement that’s similar to the Virginia Local Disability Plan. Finance Director Ed Gillaspie says every school board must make a decision within the next four weeks. Gillaspie expects to see many of the Commonwealth’s largest school divisions drop the state’s program. He says any school system that sticks with the state’s plan won’t be able to bid for lower rates. Jennifer McKeever (pictured left) and Willa Neale (pictured right) joined their colleagues in support of Gillaspie’s recommendation.
