City School Board Opposes Law Dealing With School Takeovers

The Charlottesville School Board has approved a resolution that opposes a new state law dealing with school takovers. The board voted 7-0 Thursday night for a resolution that supports the stance of the Virginia School Boards Association, which is fighting the creation of Opportunity Education Institutions. Those are schools where the standardized test scores are consistently subpar. The Charlottesville and Norfolk School Boards and Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli are on the same side in this battle. Governor McDonnell has announced he will make arrangements to defend the law which the General Assembly approved during the winter.
