Good news for train travel to southwestern Virginia. Governor McDonnell has announced that Amtrak service will be extended to Roanoke. It’s the same line that currently goes from Lynchburg to Charlottesville to D.C. and connects to Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. Passenger rail service to Roanoke is about three to four years away. The governor says it’s made possible by the transportation funding package approved by the General Assembly.
