Albemarle Woman Wants Kids To Learn Local History

An Albemarle resident wants area school systems to include local history in their curriculum. Nancy Carpenter (pictured) notes the controversy surrounding the Jesse Scott Sammons house and cemetery near the path of the proposed Western Bypass. She believes kids need to know about Sammons and his contributions to Albemarle County history. A statewide group called Preservation Virginia included the Sammons house and cemetery on its latest list of endangered sites. VDOT has committed to realigning the bypass to avoid the cemetery.
