Albemarle Police Officer Kills Intruder In Afton Area; State Police Investigate

We may learn more Monday about a domestic incident that left a man dead early Saturday in the Afton area. Albemarle Police responded to a 911 call in the 9000 block of 250 West about a domestic incident where an officer fired his gun and killed a male intruder. State Police spokeswoman Deborah Cox says her agency is assisting the Albemarle Police in the investigation of the officer-involved shooting. Cox says the Albemarle officer was not injured. The county’s Carter Johnson says the Albemarle Police put the officer on administrative leave pending the actions of the State Police and the county’s own internal investigation. Johnson says additional information regarding the incident will come from the State Police. A stretch of 250 West near the Afton Lodge Apartments was closed for several hours early Saturday while investigators cordoned off a part of the road across from those apartments. The road closure affected traffic from the intersection of 250 West and Route 151 to the top of Afton Mountain.
