Advocates For Public Housing Oppose New Option For Tenants

Local advocates for public housing say the city should not apply for a new federal program. Brandon Collins (pictured) wants the city to reject a rental assistance plan that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is promoting. Collins does not trust the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s leaders, and he believes there are too many unanswered questions. The Legal Aid Justice Center also opposes sending an application to HUD. The federal agency is pushing a voucher-based program that might require the relocation of some public housing tenants.
