With seven unpublished novels rotting away on Tony’s hard drive, John Grisham took Tony under his wing and taught him the secrets of novel writing. Writing With The Master is the story of working with the famous writer to craft a thriller, titled Sleeping Dogs. With Grisham’s actual critiques and margin notes, the book pulls back the curtain on Grisham’s amazing plot development techniques and gives the reader an inside look on what makes Grisham one of the all-time bestselling novelists.

“Be careful what you wish for,” is Vanderwarker’s reflection on the experience, “John really put me through the ringer.” The story of writing the novel and the unexpected outcome makes for a great read. “Things don’t always turn out the way you expect, but it’s what happens instead that’s often the best part,” Tony decides.

Tony says about his unexpected two-book deal:
Breaking new ground is always fun and I think readers will appreciate getting an inside look at novel writing and then reading the result. It’s never been done before and my bet is that people will find it a unique and entertaining reading experience.
